Welcome to COVEY (Clydesdale)!
COVEY (Clydesdale) is a voluntary project which recruits, trains and supports volunteer befrienders for vulnerable young people in the 7-16 age group.
The project was launched in November 1998 with funding from the National Lottery Charities Board, to offer a befriending service in Clydesdale. Over the past eight years we have built up a full caseload of one-to-one befriendings, and we have pioneered and developed Next Step Befriending, which gives young people the opportunity to get involved in projects with their befriender, and Transition Befriending, where one young person befriends another who might have special needs. This relationship between the young people is supported by a befriender.

What are we trying to do?
By providing resources to socially excluded young people we aim to
- improve the lives of these young people
- increase their self-esteem and self-confidence
- give them the opportunity to develop new skills
- give them the chance to try new activities
|
Who are our befrienders?
Anyone over the age of 18 who can drive and has their own transport! It does help if you like young people, have lots of patience and a positive outlook.
We will give you full training and support throughout your time as a befriender, as well as travel and outing expenses. As a befriender, you will gain valuable experience, as well as having the chance to gain new skills and to try new, fun things. And you'd be amazed at some of the things our befrienders have tried!
|

Who are our young people?
Most of our referrals come from Social Services' Children and Families Team, with some also coming from local schools. Children referred to us are highly disadvantaged; they have significant problems integrating into mainstream community activities through lack of opportunity, rural isolation and poverty.
We currently have a waiting list of over 50 children and young people.

So, do you want to do something different?
Then give us a call or email us! We'll give you more information without obligation on your part. And who knows, you might even enjoy it!
