Heritage Grant Applications Wanted
By Anne Knox - August 21st, 2008

Local Groups are invited to discuss their funding needs at a surgery being organised by Helen Bottomley Development Officer responsible for South Lanarkshire of the Heritage Lottery Fund.

These surgeries are taking place on Thursday 4th September 2008 and Wednesday 10th September 2008 in Association of Local Voluntary Organisations, 2 Hope Street, Lanark ML11 7LZ.

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) funds projects of all sizes, including community projects celebrating local heritage. Despite its rich heritage, South Lanarkshire has received fewer HLF grants than other areas in Scotland.

HLF want to make sure that the area gets its fair share of Lottery money and to encourage good quality applications from the community/voluntary sector. This can include community-based projects where heritage is used as a tool to promote involvement, develop new skills and create a sense of ownership and pride. Could this be an angle for a potential community development project, or do you have ideas for a community event or celebration that involves a historic building or park?

The range of history projects that can be funded is broad. For example, HLF funds projects which involve cultural and local traditions, spoken history, the social history of industries and transport systems, museums, galleries and archives, and countryside and historic parks.

More information about all of their grant programmes can be found on their website: Heritage Lottery Fund
If you wish to make an appointment to see Helen you can do so by telephoning her on 0131 240 1586 or by email at Helen Bottomley
