Description
The estate was established in the 14th century and still remains in private ownership. Corehouse was built in 1824-27 by Edward Blore of London, who also built Buckingham Palace. This house is considered the pioneer house in Scotland of the Tudor Revival of English 16th century domestic architecture. Blore was introduced to Lord Corehouse by the novelist Sir Walter Scott in 1816.
Corehouse, category ?A? listed building has a picturesque profile with many shafted chimney stacks and carefully contrived massing so as to appear to have evolved in an unplanned manner. The interior is well conserved and is focused on a lantern stair tower. Close to the house is Corra Castle built in the 15th century which is now a Scheduled Ancient Monument, which is one of the many features of the estate. Guided tourst on Sunday at 11.30am, 2pm and 3pm. Please note that each tours is restricted to 20 people and that places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
